Baltimore legend Leonard "Boogie" Weinglass visits the patio for a conversation with Greg Lewis, author of the new volume BOOGIE
About this Event

The Ivy welcomes Baltimore legend Leonard "Boogie" Weinglass to the patio for a conversation with Greg Lewis, author of the new volume BOOGIE: Afraid of Nothing Except Being Nothing!

Leonard “Boogie” Weinglass always had dreams—impossible dreams, soon forgotten. Greg Lewis' new biography explores poverty and wealth, gambling addiction, violence, lust, business success, antisemitism, and impulsive philanthropy as they relate to the man who became the rascal street character "Boogie" in Barry Levinson's classic coming-of-age film, "Diner"-- and the man who created the stunning Merry-Go-Round clothing chain.

In this special event, the two come together to reflect together on the events that made "Boogie" legendary. We hope you'll join us!

Books will be available for sale at the event.

Greg Lewis is best known as a two-time EMMY honoree, for Writing and Production during his 25-year career in network television sports. He worked primarily with NBC but also wrote and hosted sports shows for CBS, Turner, ESPN, and HBO. Lewis covered Winter and Summer Olympic Games in seven countries. He is a published poet, humorist, essayist, and columnist. BOOGIE is his first biography. Lewis has lived in Aspen since 1964. He is a graduate of Middlebury College, 1969.

From his youthful days running the streets of Baltimore to his creation of the Merry-Go-Round clothing chain, Leonard “Boogie” Weinglass is an only-in-America success story. A slice of his life was told in Barry Levinson’s movie, “Diner.” Now here’s Boogie’s whole story, inspiring and hilarious, from basketball courts and pool halls and all-night sessions at the fabled Hilltop Diner to his breath-taking gambles and the millions of dollars he’s generously donated to the needy.
