Bonsai Workshop with Kaya Mooney

This is a bring-your-own-tree workshop with a limited number of participants. You are expected to bring three to four bonsai or pre-bonsai, along with your own bonsai tools. The club will provide aluminum wire, and most instructors also bring a selection of their own tools. One or two volunteers are typically present to assist participants as needed during the workshop.

Our instructors will circulate throughout the room, working with each participant to develop a plan for their tree or trees and help you get started on that work. Because instructors rotate from student to student, they are not able to perform all of the work for you, but will guide, demonstrate, and advise as time allows.

Your instructor’s goal is to help move your tree forward. While the work can sometimes be transformative, progress may be limited by the health of the tree, the season, or the design direction you choose. It’s important to remember that bonsai is a long-term process of styling and refinement over many years. Workshops are a valuable learning opportunity—but they are only one step in your bonsai journey.
