About this Event

Join me at Nigel Studio for a live bonsai repotting demonstration centered around a 30-year-old jade tree that was recently uprooted after falling from a table during a storm.

During the demonstration, I’ll walk through the full repotting process from start to finish, including how to evaluate the tree after an accident, select a new pot that fits the scale and character of the tree, choose an appropriate soil mix, clean and trim the root system, and securely wire the tree into its new container.

This will be a practical, close-up look at the decisions that go into repotting an established bonsai and helping it transition safely into a new pot.

The live demonstration will last just under an hour, followed by time for questions, conversation, and exploring my studio, plant collection, handmade ceramics, and current work.

Topics covered will include:

  • Choosing a pot for the size and character of the tree
  • Selecting the right bonsai soil
  • Removing and cleaning the existing root system
  • Root pruning and preparation
  • Positioning the tree in its new pot
  • Wiring and securing the tree
  • Post-repotting care and considerations

Whether you’re new to bonsai, growing succulents and jades at home, or simply interested in plants, ceramics, and the process behind creating a finished display, you’re welcome to come watch, ask questions, and spend some time in the studio.
