His newest release, Detour, is Boney’s 18th album, building on the success of 2020’s Solid, the highest-charting album in his career. Inspired by his return to live performances post-pandemic, Detour ventures into new musical territories while staying true to James’ jazz/R&B fusion. He began his professional career before turning 20, touring with renowned acts like Morris Day, Teena Marie and the Isley Brothers before launching his solo career in 1992.
