Join the Friends of Bold Park Bushland for an after-dark guided walk searching for some of the nocturnal animals that live in Bold Park. Many of Australiaβs native animals are nocturnal or crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk), so evenings are a great time to look for small creatures as they emerge from their daytime hiding spots.
As the sky darkens, orb-weaver spiders start building their webs while wolf spiders emerge from their underground burrows, their big eyes twinkling brightly in the torchlight. Look up and you may see bats darting above. Study tree trunks to see geckoes poking out from under pieces of loose bark. Listen carefully to hear quendas digging and hopping amongst the bushes. With a little luck, you might spot a tawny frogmouth or boobook owl quietly watching you from the trees or a brushtail possum munching on some leaves.
These are just some of the amazing wild animals that we'll hope to see during this exploration of the bushland. We'll be following an established walking trail, which includes some moderately steep uphill sections, so a moderate level of fitness will be required.
There are limited places available, so please purchase a ticket at friendsofboldpark.com.au/events. Tickets are $6 each, or $20 for a family of four.
Bring a torch to light the path and binoculars, if you have them, to help spot animals high in the trees. Wear sturdy, closed-in shoes and come dressed for the weather.
This event will go ahead even during rainy weather. The walk will only be cancelled, and tickets will only be refunded, if a severe weather warning is in place at the time of the walk.
