The biggest lie about body positivity is that it is exclusively a women's issue.“I'm too fat. I'm too thin. I have acne. I'm not tall enough. I need to buff up.” Men are plagued by these thoughts more often than you might think.
According to a survey conducted by the British Mental Health Foundation in 2019, nearly one in three men over the age of 18 have anxiety about their appearance, every fifth man tries to hide their body with baggy clothes, and every tenth man considers committing suicide because of body issues.
Beauty standards still affect women the most, with men often becoming the most vicious critics. Let's change that together!
? On March 18, we are holding an Instagram live stream about body positivity featuring a special guest Alvar Ameljushenko, the head of Tallinn Bearty.
?️ On March 22, we meet again, now in Kino Sõprus, to watch Body Positive, a short film selection about accepting your body. We will be joined over Zoom by two of the directors, Shana Myara and Isak Kohaly, and the discussion will be moderated by Jana Levitina from Feministeerium.
All films will be shown in their original language with English, Estonian, and Russian subtitles and an English-language Q&A. We look forward to seeing you there.
