Jazz Series / Live at Timucua: The Bobby Falk Group is a contemporary jazz ensemble based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, specializing in original compositions and modern jazz. Bobby Falk, the drummer and leader, founded the group in 2006 in Louisville, KY, before relocating to Dallas, TX in the summer of 2015.
The group’s repertoire blends modern and traditional jazz, drawing fusion influences from artists like Pat Metheny, Rick Margitza, Michael Brecker, and Steps Ahead. Alongside Bobby’s acclaimed original compositions, the band consistently features works written by its other members.
The Bobby Falk Group has released four full-length albums of original material: Coming to Fruition, Samuel Street Songs, A New Day, and With My Dallas Friends. They have performed both locally and nationally at esteemed events and festivals. Notable appearances include the Huntingburg Jazz Fest (2013), Lexington Library Concert Series (2014), Katy Jazz Festival (2017), Durant Jazz Festival at Southeastern Oklahoma State University (2018), Fort Worth Main Street Arts Festival (2017-present), Denton Jazz and Arts Festival (2016-present), Fort Worth Library Jazz Concert Series (2017), Grapevine Grapefest (2022), Granbury Jazz Fest (2022), and the 13th Annual JEN Convention (Jazz Education Network) in January 2022 in Dallas, TX.
Bobby Falk, a Louisville, KY native, grew up in a musical family. His father, Gary Falk, is a saxophonist and owner of the local recording studio Falk Audio, while his mother, Dorissa, is a pianist/organist who taught music for over 30 years in public schools. Bobby graduated from the Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS) High School and the University of Louisville Jazz Studies Program, earning a BA in Jazz Studies with an emphasis on Percussion in 2005.
After graduating, Bobby began composing music and established the Bobby Falk Group, a contemporary jazz ensemble. In addition to his work with the group, he performed as a sideman and freelancer in the Kentucky-Indiana area. Bobby has played with renowned artists such as Lionel Hampton, Lew Soloff, Bobby Shew, Jamey Aebersold, Dave Zoller, Tommy Poole, Phil Woods, Craig Wagner, Curtis Fuller, and Shelley Carrol. In the summer of 2015, Bobby, his wife Anne, and their two sons moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
