BOAS: Hospital, perioperative and peri-procedural strategies

About this Event

BOAS and other brachycephalic-related challenges can present significant risks throughout a patient's hospital stay, from admission and stabilisation through to procedures, anaesthesia and recovery.

In this session, Dr Ben Mielke, Head of Surgery, and Dr Leanne Pinfold, Head of Emergency and Critical Care, will explore current evidence-based recommendations and practical strategies for managing these patients.

Together, they will look at:

• What strategies are available to manage brachycephalic patients during their time in hospital?
• What does the current evidence say about best practice?
• How should we approach perioperative and peri-procedural care?
• Are there strategies that could be changed to improve patient outcomes?
• How can we make the management of these patients safer and less stressful in practice?

The evening will focus on practical decision-making and strategies that can be applied in everyday veterinary practice, with perspectives from both surgery and emergency and critical care.

Dr Leanne Pinfold is Lort Smith's Head of Emergency and Critical Care, with deep experience in the assessment, stabilisation and management of critically ill and complex patients.
