Component's Board Gaming 101 sessions are intentionally designed to be friendly, relaxed, and approachable ways of learning new board games and board game mechanics. Gamers of all levels are welcome and encouraged to join, but those new to the hobby can be assured of a welcoming and nonjudgmental experience as you learn the lay of the land.
Our second session will focus on turn-based games, a pretty ubiquitous style of board game where every turn you choose to take one of several potential actions which may help you, or better yet, help you and hinder your enemies... er... gaming companions. In Ticket to Ride, each player collects train cards which allow them to build routes across North America. The longer the route, the more points the player earns. Each turn, you can either: select additional train cards, claim a route on the board, or draw additional destination tickets. But watch out--other players have their own goals and may snag the very route you desperately need. Once we go over the rules, games typically take more or less than an hour to play, depending on the number of players.
While I will have the base game set up to teach, there will be several expansion maps available to play as well! Newcomers are welcome to learn while more experienced players play on their own nearby (or select another game from our library to play!). ALL who game (i.e., with me or separately) will reap the reward of $1 off all taps and be entered to win a game to take home (TBD).
