Component's Board Gaming 101 sessions are intentionally designed to be friendly, relaxed, and approachable ways of learning new board games and board game mechanics. Gamers of all levels are welcome and encouraged to join, but those new to the hobby can be assured of a welcoming and nonjudgmental experience as you learn the lay of the land.
Our fourth session will focus on cooperative play, a mechanic that invites players to work together rather than against each other. In this kind of game, players talk through all decisions and work toward a common goal.
In Pandemic, players are scientists, medics, operations experts, and other helpers trying to treat, cure, and eradicate four deadly diseases before they take over the world. Each turn, players will take four actions aimed at containing the viruses and helping their teammates, followed by a drawing phase and contamination phase. The fate of the world depends on your communication and teamwork, and you will win or lose together.
Once we go over the rules, games typically take more or less than 60 minutes to play, depending on the number of players. I will have several copies set up to play, as well as Component's entire game library at your fingertips. ALL who game (i.e., with me or separately) will reap the reward of $1 off all taps and be entered to win a game to take home (TBD).
