is thrilled to invite you to our Spring Fundraiser: Shilpo Mela!
Shilpo Mela loosely translates to artisan fair in Bangla, and traditionally has been held in Bengal as a way to preserve craftsmanship and support cultural art. BMHM is bringing the spirit of Shilpo Mela to NYC this Spring!
Come join us at Artifact Projects for an afternoon celebrating Bengali artistry & creativity, which includes a curation of featured artwork from local Bengali artists, a mini vendor market, and live instrumental performances by talented musicians.

Shilpo Mela is our Spring fundraiser: BMHM's goal is to raise $7,000 to sustain our crucial work providing culturally accessible mental health resources and spaces for the Bengali diaspora.
We’re also launching the first Bengali Mental Health Directory in NYC on May 3. Your support helps cover the cost of building and sustaining this resource, connecting our community to culturally competent care.
---
Your support maintains and strengthens:

  • Alaap: Our free, monthly in-person peer support space, where community members gather to explore topics like generational trauma, identity, and relational stress.
  • Joton: A new program centered on embodied and creative self-care, offering free workshops that support healing through art, movement, and cultural practices.
  • Directory of Bengali Mental Health Professionals: A first-of-its-kind, accessible database of Bengali mental health professionals in NYC, designed to help community members find care that understands their language and lived experiences. This directory is already in development, your support ensures we can sustain and grow it beyond launch.
  • Mental Health Resources in Bangla: Translated and culturally grounded materials (pamphlets, infoguides, videos) that make mental health knowledge more accessible.
  • Safe spaces: We prioritize creating spaces where people can find connection, comfort, and care—especially within a community navigating complex socioeconomic challenges.
