About this Event
'Wor Bella' writer Ed Waugh and co-producer Jane Harker share the story of the amazing Blyth footballer Bella Reay.
"Wor Bella" follows the remarkable story of the WWI Munitionettes who not only heroically supported the war effort in munitions factories but also played football to raise money for charity. Blyth Spartan’s Ladies’ was a well-known team in the North East and their superstar Bella Reay scored 133 goals in 30 matches.
Blyth Library is proud to have been chosen as the new home for two banners containing adverts for the 1918 final at St James' Park and the replay at Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough. We will get our first glimpse of these wonderful banners when Bella's granddaughter, Yvonne Crawford, unveils them on the night!
There will also be an opportunity to buy a copy of the 'Wor Bella' script if you want to read more.
