Daniel Repsch is coming to Waterloo Ontario to share his knowledge and talent with Hepcat Studio.
This workshop Dan will be focusing on Blues and Balboa. Both days of the workshop will have Balboa and Blues, 2 very different dances that actually complement each other very well! The Stew includes a total of 10 hours of instruction (from Dan), a DJ’ed dance on Friday, and a live music dance with the KW Kool band on Saturday at the Navel Club.
The next early bird rate is $140.00 for members and $150.00 for non members. This rate is closed on Aug. 25th, 2026 .

Friday: Welcome dance at the studio. 7:30- 10:00
Saturday
9:30- Registration.
9:45- 11:00 Bal Class One.
Core Pure Bal Partnering
This class is about being clear, comfortable, rhythmic pure Bal dancers. We’ll break away from patterns, looking instead at things like how we interact with the floor and the ways we shift our weight to create an improvised social dance.
11:15-12:30 Bal Class Two.
Toss Outs and Redirections
Like the title says, this class is about toss outs and variations. We'll start off by refining the technique of the base movement, and from there we’ll explore a few variations that will push our partnering skills.

Grooves and Moves
This class is about finding the different ways you can move your body to express your ideas. We'll explore a variety of grooves, pulses, body shaping, and maybe footwork to add depth to our basics.
3:00-4:15 Blues Class Two.
Axis Awareness
Let's build the precision and awareness of our axis and how we communicate that with a partner. We'll explore the differences between full axis shifts, hesitations, and sways and how each can be used for different kinds of movements.
7:00- 10:00 Dance at the Navel Club with the KW Kool band
10:30-??? Late night at a members house.

Out and Ins
There’s a lot we can do with out and ins, and this class explores those possibilities. We’ll start by refining the techniques that are fundamental to this movement, and then try on a few variations that will help us express a wider range of creativity as leads and follows.

1:00-2:15- Bal Class Four
Pure Bal Dynamics
When we’re improvising in a rhythmic swing dance, being able to change up our basics is key. In this class we’ll use classic pure Bal vocabulary as a base and find some ways we can adjust the speed and energy to express our ideas along with the music.
2:30-3:45- Blues Class Three
Jazz-Blues Momentum
Sometimes the music is jazzier, and we need to add stretch, flow, and momentum to our dance. This class explores how we can do that as a partnership across multiple dance positions.
4:00-5:15- Blues Class four
Chill Fast Dancing
The Blues music that we dance to spans an incredibly wide range of tempos. This class explores some strategies we can use to have a comfortable dance as the music gets faster.
