Blue Orchids is one of seminal Mancunian Martin Bramah’s musical vehicles.The band was first conceived in 1979 after Bramah walked out on The Fall, a group he originally conceived with Mark E Smith.
The band has been through many changes. Always keeping it real and keeping it underground.
This year’s line-up is a wild mix of psych, post-punk and ‘city-folk’.
Pounding beats, pulsing bass, a maelstrom of melody and discordant lead-breaks, power’s this beast that Bramah has created and nurtured through the years.
Follow them down a shady back-alley, if you dare, and watch as they reveal the dark, psychedelic mysteries at the heart of their music.
Joining The Blue Orchids are Estonian noise rockers Shelton San who are visiting the UK for their second time. Shelton San are a three piece formed in 2002 from the small Estonian music scene in Tallinn. Though most of their career has been based in Estonia, recent events led to Shelton San working internationally. In 2023, they were the first Eastern European band to do a BBC session in 32 years and toured with The Fall's Simon Wolstencroft last year.
Finishing the bill are Liverpool post-punk pioneers The Room who are back with a new album "The Telling" - a melodic blend of progressive, alternative pop and sultry post-punk, which is just as fresh and relevant now as it was when they first broke up in 1985. Firm favourites of the late John Peel, who hosted the group for four BBC Live Sessions, The Room have been compared to Joy Division and fellow Liverpool band Echo and the Bunnymen, with whom along with visionary contemporaries The Fall, The Birthday Party and Tom Verlaine, they shared the stage with in the early 80s burgeoning post-punk movement.
