Join us and Richard Newman for a talk titled "The History of the Color Blue,” as part of the Community Curator exhibition, Blue: The Celebration of a Color by Martha Friend. A captivating event that takes you on a concise journey through the fascinating history of the color blue. In a condensed format, we'll explore how blue has shaped human civilizations, art, and culture over the centuries. From its ancient origins to use in contemporary culture this event will offer an engaging exploration into the enduring allure of a color and its profound impact on humanity’s story.Admission: $10; free to Somerville Museum members and visitors 12 years of age and under. About Richard Newman:
Richard Newman has been the Head of Scientific Research at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston since 1998, and has been a Research Scientist there since 1986. He was a Conservation Scientist/Assistant Conservator of Objects and Sculpture, Harvard University Art Museums, 1983-1986; Conservation Scientist, Harvard University Art Museums, 1980-1983. He is a visiting professor in the Art History Department at Boston College and a lecturer in the annual team-taught course, ‘Archaeological Science’ offered by the Center for Materials Research in Archaeology and Ethnology (CMRAE) at MIT. His favorite color has always been blue!
