Blue Angel and Dr Wiedemann’s Orchestra perform original songs that trace their lives as performers in pre-Second World War Europe. Influences include Brecht, Weil and Hollaender. Inspiration is drawn from klezmer, jazz, folk and blues combined with characters that continue to live in current times in a nether world state as spirits. Arc back in time as the Blue Angel and Dr Wiedemann’s Orchestra bring you the musty era of Warsaw and Weimar on a battered silver tray.
Black Owl Quartet are a gypsy jazz band from Canberra and formed in July 2021. Black Owl Quartet are an acoustic instrumental ensemble who play gypsy jazz originating from Romani guitarist Django Reinhardt in the 1930s. Whilst the Quartet have their own interpretation of the genre it is deeply rooted in the tradition and swing of hot club-style jazz. The Quartet have performed at a range of venues in Sydney and Canberra including private functions and parties. The Quartet are very much at home with busking and can be found around Canberra outside cafes and shops playing music and engaging with the community in discussing the origins of gypsy jazz. Black Owl Quartet features Marcus De Pasquale (Other bands - Witchskull, Hekate) – Lead Guitar, Jeremy Tsui (Scigod) – Bass, Ash Byron (Hekate) – Rhythm Guitar and Isabelle Lee - Violin.
