Blowgun is a traditional music fusion project based in New Orleans, founded by fiddler Miriam Hacksaw and pandeirista Rye Oommen. Centered around old time fiddle tunes and samba percussion, their music recognizes the proletarian and anti-colonial origins of both styles. Rye and Miriam are siblings of Malayali descent, and also play family songs in Malayalam from their motherland of Kerala, India. While not tied to a specific genre, Blowgun finds a unique sound in solidarity across ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
