About this Event

101 years after James Joyce’s novel Ulysses first appeared in print, we are pleased to invite you to celebrate the publication anniversary of Anthony Burgess’s favourite book.

Joyce’s epic novel is set in Dublin on a single day: 16 June 1904. This date has come to be known as ‘Bloomsday’ after the hero of the book, a modern-day version of Homer’s Odysseus, called Leopold Bloom.

Our 16 June celebration will include music, speeches, a wine reception, and the first screening of a new short film about Joyce and Ulysses.

Burgess was devoted to Joyce, producing two non-fiction books and a stage musical based on his work. Earlier this year, Galileo published a new edition of A Shorter Finnegans Wake, edited by Burgess.

This event is organised in collaboration with the Consulate General for Ireland.
