In 2025, with the late night talk show format on the verge of collapse, the CBC–still haunted by the memory of Jonovision–has turned to known art wacko Leit Nyt to develop a new show. Bolstered by the promise that the network will not interfere with their vision, Nyt has developed an untethered bizarro of a late show, featuring many of their wildest friends, neighbours and creative nemeses. On December 11, 2025, Late Night with Leit Nyt will debut their new show on stage at the China Cloud, featuring…you?
In this madhouse elective, you and your groupmates will embark on the creation of a late night talk show that doubles as a character work class, (loosely) imagined by BTC Artistic Director Tom Hill.
First and foremost, you will practice the craft of building unhinged characters who–importantly–can still listen and interact with others without breaking the world they are in. Second, we will together decide how this showcase will unfold, how we can collectively play Nyt, and how to weave suggestions in live and the night grows late and the guests get…weird.
This elective is one way into Bloc Fest 2025, a program that is designed to offer you a taste of what it’s like to do an improv festival. You and like-minded players will work with your coach on a special showcase and then throw that down at the Festival on December 11. Then you as an individual will jam with other festival players in the late show.
But Bloc Fest isn’t just about the performing. It also features awards for best group, best player, etc., and once all the on-stage stuff is done, everyone goes out together and riffs about how great each other are. Many great groups and friendships have formed at Bloc Fests gone by.
We highly recommend it to any improviser who is starting to get curious about what the wider improv world can offer. If a pre-chosen format or pre-set isn’t for you, you can also get a group of improv pals together and organize your own Bloc Team by submitting a Bloc Fest application by October 15 here.
