Sandwell District – the influential yet elusive collective of Regis, Function and the late Silent Servant – stunned with an unexpected reunion this year, and now take to our Blitz booth with their frugal industrial-infused and punk-spirited Techno, joined by our long-time comrade Steffi for a night of immersive and deep-cut dancefloor excursions.
When Sandwell District dissolved in 2013, arguably at the height of their influence, the breakup echoed a classic rock cliché – creative tension, intensity, and fallout. But their sound always stood apart: raw yet refined, unsettling, and powerfully focused. The tense and exothermic relation between Function and Regis was tempered by the late Juan Mendez aka Silent Servant, whose presence grounded the trio’s volatile chemistry. What began as a loose offshoot of the Downwards label evolved into a project with a distinct voice and direction. Their first full-length, Feed-Forward, remains as one 2010s Techno defining moments. Their recent and unexpected return, End Beginnings, is a sombre yet striking tribute to Mendez’s influence – haunting and uncompromising.
Now, Regis and Function return to the decks together at Blitz, for a rare joint appearance. Completing the bill are Steffi & Stenny: expect a night of gripping and poignant Techno for minds and bodies alike.
