Bli kjent med Cristiana Tejo

Cristiana Tejo (Recife, Brasil, 1976) er kurator, skribent og forsker med base i Lisboa. Hun har en doktorgrad i sosiologi (UFPE) og er meddirektør for NowHere – en eksperimentell plattform for kunstnerisk forskning og dialog. For øyeblikket kuraterer hun residensprogrammet ved Hangar – Center for Artistic Research og er forsker ved Institutt for kunsthistorie ved Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Hennes kuratoriske arbeid utforsker omsorgsbaserte, feministiske og dekoloniale tilnærminger til kunst, ofte i dialog med eksperimentelle pedagogikker og transnasjonale samtaler. Hun var medkurator for utstillingen É bonita a festa, pá! ved Bienal de Cerveira 2024, og var del av kuratorteamet for Panorama of Brazilian Art 2022 ved Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo. Hun har kuratert utstillinger i Brasil, Portugal, Spania og Tyskland, inkludert prosjekter knyttet til arkiver, kunstnerbøker og eksperimentelle formater.
Tejo har vært direktør for Aloisio Magalhães Museum of Modern Art (MAMAM) og leder for kulturprogrammer ved Fundação Joaquim Nabuco. Hun var medgrunnlegger av Fonte Art Research Center (Recife), koordinerte Belojardim Residency (PE), og ledet det internasjonale utvekslingsprosjektet Made in Mirrors (Brasil, Kina, Egypt, Nederland, 2007–2012). Hun har publisert og redigert bøker som Paulo Bruscky – art and multimédia (2014) og Guide of Visual Artists – Insertion and Internationalization (2018, med UNESCO). Hun sitter for tiden i styret ved Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo.
Tejo er i Stavanger i forbindelse med Itchy Fingers – et skriveopphold om kunstbøker, arrangert av CAS – Contemporary Art Stavanger i samarbeid med Kiellandsenteret. Hun skal arbeide med bibliotekets kunstboksamling og Kiellands livsverk, med utgangspunkt i eget arbeid over flere år har jobbet med den brasilianske konseptkunstneren Paulo Brusckys arkiv.

Get to know Cristiana Tejo

Cristiana Tejo (Recife, Brazil, 1976) is a curator, writer, and researcher based in Lisbon. She holds a PhD in Sociology (UFPE) and is co-director of NowHere – an experimental platform for artistic research and dialogue. She currently curates the residency program at Hangar – Center for Artistic Research and is a researcher at the Institute of Art History at Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Her curatorial work explores care-based, feminist, and decolonial approaches to art, often engaging with experimental pedagogies and transnational dialogues. She co-curated the exhibition É bonita a festa, pá! for the 2024 Bienal de Cerveira and was part of the curatorial team for the Panorama of Brazilian Art 2022 at the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo. She has curated exhibitions in Brazil, Portugal, Spain, and Germany, including projects involving archives, artist books, and experimental formats.

Tejo is in Stavanger in connection with Itchy Fingers – a writing residency on artists’ books, organized by CAS – Contemporary Art Stavanger in collaboration with the Kielland Centre. She will work with the library’s artist book collection and Kielland’s life’s work, drawing on her own longstanding engagement with the archive of Brazilian conceptual artist Paulo Bruscky.
