Dear Parishioners and Friends,Join us on December 29, 2024, after the Holy Badarak, as we continue our cherished traditions with the Blessing of Pomegranates at Holy Virgin Mary and Shoghagat Armenian Church.
Eternal Symbolism in Ancient Armenia:
The pomegranate, known as "Nur" in Armenian, is more than just a fruit. It is a symbol deeply rooted in Armenian culture, representing fertility, abundance, and good fortune. Just as the pomegranate holds a special place in our mythology, it reflects the rich heritage of our culture alongside other national symbols like celery, wine, apricots, khachkars, duduk, and the Biblical Mount Ararat.
In ancient Armenia, the pomegranate symbolized eternity. Legend has it that a pregnant woman, during a royal celebration, swallowed a pomegranate seed. In a fit of anger, the king wounded her, miraculously sparing the life of her newborn son, who was found with the pomegranate seed on his lips.
Let's come together for this unique and meaningful celebration, embracing the symbolism and richness of our cultural heritage.
See you there!
