BLANK Is The Thing With Feathers: On Symbolism & Poetry’s Favourite Animal

In this workshop we will examine the wonderful, mystifying world of birds and their intense relationship with literature, both past and present, as icons of the oblique and the transcendent. Using our feathered friends as a case study, we will learn to wield symbolism effectively through a series of short, genre-agnostic writing exercises. The ultimate goal will be a scene or poem, situating a bird, that holds the written work's world of meaning adeptly in its talons.
