Our year-long Keeping the Score Series continues with one of the best Sci-Fi movies of all time--BLADERUNNER! ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ง๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐: princetongardentheatre.org/specials๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ฒ: Ridley Scottโs sci-fi noir classic based on the Philip K Dick novel. When four rogue androids escape, it is the job of blade runner Rick Deckard to eliminate them, but as he hunts them, he is forced to question what it is to be human. Fully embraced as a groundbreaking piece of filmmaking, BLADE RUNNER features breathtaking production design, memorable performances, and a dreamy synth score. This version is the definitive โFinal Cutโ done by director Ridley Scott in 2007.
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ: Composed by renowned Greek electronic musician Vangelis, BLADE RUNNER is considered an influential work in the history of electronic music and one of his best works. The score is distinguished by its emotive synthesizer-driven sound, which effectively captures the film's dystopian atmosphere. Vangelis crafted the score solely through live keyboard performances, recording the music directly. He drew inspiration from jazz scores of classic film noir, Middle Eastern texture, and neo-classical elements. A conflict with the studio initially prevented Vangelis from allowing the release of his recordings, leading to the hiring of other musicians to create orchestral renditions of the score for its original theatrical release. This issue was ultimately resolved in 1994, so the comprehensive box set released in 2007 includes previously unused musical cues.
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐:Be it a gentle piano interlude or a glorious orchestral fanfare, no element of filmcraft sets a movieโs tone and identity quite like the musical score. Film music has the power to underline a filmmakerโs narrative ideas, forge our bond to a heroic character, and move us to the point of tears. Join us all year long as we showcase cinemaโs iconic composers whose musical talents enrich the images we see on screen and have us humming their unforgettable melodies as we exit the auditorium.
