Ever wondered what Blacksmithing is like, how hot it is, and what it looks like within a modern society?
Well, why not join a day course at our workshop where you can spend time with professional Blacksmith, Jack Sampson, talking all things metal and fire and learning traditional Blacksmithing methods. Get the feel of the hammer and the heat from the forge as you take a step behind the anvil and make your very own flower to take home with you.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for complete beginners as no previous knowledge is required.
The course is limited to a maximum of three people to ensure participants are fully supported.
Do I need to bring anything?
The course costs include all materials and equipment, including use of our ceramic chip twin forge and associated blacksmithing tools.
Thick cotton trousers, such as jeans, are recommended and a non-synthetic long-sleeve top. Long hair must be tied back.
Lunch is available to purchase from The River Kitchen at the Museum of Making or various eateries and shops in the city centre.

Tickets are priced at £160.00 per person. Derby Museums Friends & Members are eligible for 10% discount.

About Jack Sampson:
“Blacksmithing and craft started for me at 14, and ever since then I have been heavily involved in the craft and in particular, the Blacksmith industry.
For me, no two days are the same, and whether it is a completely handmade product, or working alongside computer aided design and computer aided manufacturer, I have ran my own independent Blacksmith and designer business for 4 years.
The ability to be able to make things with my hands is what keeps me making, knowing that everything that I produce has been loving made, hand crafted and ultimately, produced completely by me. The sense of achievement and satisfaction is one that cannot beaten, and has ultimately kept me grounded within Blacksmithing and it’s rich history for the past 13 years. From gates and railings for some of the biggest stately homes in the UK, to pocket sized gifts for family and friends, Blacksmithing has taken me everywhere, and it is craft that can take you through so many different journeys, that ultimately, are a struggle to find within corporate world.

Please note that if you choose to cancel your place your ticket price will be refunded minus the Ticketsource service fee. Your total refund is dependent on the number of days notice given:
– A minimum of 7 days before the event – full refund – minus TicketSource fee
– 6 – 3 days before event – 50% refund minus TicketSource fee
– 2 days before event – no refund
In the event that Derby Museums needs to cancel a workshop, your ticket will be refunded in full.
