Blacksmithing Stocking Hanger Workshop (Teens & Adults)

In this workshop, participants will forge a holiday stocking hanger to hang on their mantel utilizing a coal-burning forge, anvil, and the hand-hammered forming techniques of blacksmithing. A video link covering basic blacksmith safety will be given for viewing before the workshop. Workshops will take place in the Blacksmithing Area by the Jewelry Studio. *Please arrive 15 minutes before the workshop to check in and find the correct building.

All fuel and project materials will be provided as well as safety glasses, gloves, earplugs, and aprons. Participants will need to wear 100% natural non-flammable fibers (cotton or wool). No synthetic fibers or blends. Leather or cotton canvas shoes that fully enclose feet. Long sleeve shirts and pants that cover tops of footwear. Small class sizes and outdoor individual workspaces make social distancing the norm.

About the Instructor: Garrett Goebel lives in Decatur and is a member of the Alex Bealer Blacksmith Association of Georgia. He enjoys blacksmithing, dry stone masonry, and building log cabins.
