A Little History
What is Found Poetry?
Found Poetry stems from a period of the 20th century focused on surrealism and dadaism. Art of that era was often created from recycled items, giving ordinary/commercial things new meaning when put within a new context in unexpected combinations or juxtapositions. The use of text from magazines , newspapers, and packaging became a source of inspiration for spontaneous creations. In Art Therapy practices, found poetry is useful for its playful and expressive nature. It can reveal subconscious truths or be a source of social commentary.
What is Blackout Poetry?
Blackout Poetry is a type of found poetry that involves crossing out words from a text to create a new poem. It's also known as erasure or redacted poetry. Blackout poetry can give new meaning to old texts. The artwork created by blacking out words can also contribute to the poem's meaning.
