Classical Series / Live at Timucua: The BlackBox Ensemble, a dynamic collective of young contemporary music performers from New York City, pushes the experimental boundaries of modern music through innovative and impactful projects. Established in 2018, their 2023-2024 season promises to be their most ambitious yet, featuring major performances in New York City and across the U.S., including stops in Washington, DC, Florida, Michigan, and the Northeast.
The season kicks off in September with "The Sound of Space Between Us," an outdoor, site-specific music and dance performance at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts. In November, the ensemble will present the live premiere of "Borrowed Landscape," a radio play by German playwright duo tauchgold with music by Dai Fujikura, at the Noguchi Museum. This program also includes works by Anna Thorvaldsdottir, inti figgis-vizueta, and Toru Takemitsu.
The fall season concludes with an educational residency at the University of Florida, in collaboration with their composition department and the Harn Museum of Art. In the spring, the ensemble will perform a new multimedia work about bird migration and ornithological conservation by the Consonance Composers Collective at scientific museums throughout the Northeast. They will also reprise "Borrowed Landscape" at the Smithsonian Institution’s Asian Art Museum and perform "The Sound of Space Between Us" during a residency at the University of Michigan. Don’t miss the chance to witness the cutting-edge performances of the BlackBox Ensemble this season!
