Get ready for an exciting night as Black Wax returns with top-class turntable trio Greg Churchill, Andy Vann, and Azza. These heavyweight resident DJs will be playing all vinyl, all night at Auckland's finest underground club. Black Wax started as a celebration of timeless cuts from legendary venues, but over the past 8 years, it has evolved to incorporate cutting-edge releases and classics in the making.
Azza:
Azza started DJing in 2001 while living in London, where he played his first club gig and was hooked. He has played a lot of top parties over the years, including True Believers, Chicago Disco, Electric Orange, Jack The Groove, Essence, Deep n Disco, Love Bug and Pitch n Faders to name just a few. In 2007 he had a Friday night show on George FM for 3 years called the Midnight Snack which he did with fellow music heads Ed, Bodge and a heap of guests. He has also played support for some of his favourite international producers, including Inland Knights, Da Sunlounge and Sonny Fodera. For the last 5 years he has been a resident on Ink Bar’s hugely-successful vinyl-only club night, "Black Wax"
Greg Churchill
Greg Churchill is a legendary DJ who has redefined the art of DJing since his career started in 1984. He has performed with heavyweights of house and techno, hit the UK charts, and won numerous awards. Known as the "Godfather of House" in New Zealand, he began on student radio in Christchurch and eventually made his way to Auckland where he cemented his reputation with long, mesmerizing sets on three turntables. He has also made his mark as a music-maker with releases on Ministry of Sound, Azuli, Hed Kandi, and Underwater, among others.
Andy Vann
Throughout his nearly Fourty year-long career, Andy Vann has played a significant role in elevating New Zealand's presence in the global house music scene. As one of the country's DJ pioneers, he began his club career in 1983 and has since become a versatile turntable DJ, skilled across multiple genres. In 1996, he even won the Rip It Up Hip Hop mix tape competition, a recording of which is now preserved at Te Papa.
Andy's contribution to the music industry extends beyond his DJing talents. As part of the team behind the double platinum Proud album, which showcased acts from his Voodoo Rhyme Syndicate and Voodoo Vinyl, including Mc Slam & Dj Jam, Sisters Underground, Semi MC's and Pacifican descendants, he played a crucial role in promoting local talent. Additionally, he founded the long-running house brand Fine Tuned in 1999, which has been responsible for some of Auckland's most popular underground events.
Throughout his career, Andy has toured with and supported numerous stars, including derrick Carter, Fred Everything, Inland Knights and Mark Farina and more. In the last decade, he has continued to support and promote fresh Kiwi house and disco producers through his record labels HuHu and Grass Green, as well as his new Natural Rhythms project which includes Electric Orange, Grass green, Black Sands & Red Snapper, resulting in international acclaim on dance charts.
