Black Violin is composed of classically trained duo violist Wil Baptiste and violinist Kev Marcus, who first met in orchestra class at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale and combine their classical training and hip-hop influences to create a distinctive multigenre sound often described as “classical boom.” The band released their major label debut "Stereotypes" (2015), featuring Black Thought of The Roots and MC Pharoahe Monch, on Universal Music. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Crossover chart and No. 4 on the Billboard R&B chart. NPR took note and declared “their music will keep classical music alive for the next generation.” Black Violin subsequently released "Take the Stairs" (2019) and "Give Thanks" (2020) and are currently touring the United States.
