Day 1 - We will walk from Buttermere to Black Sail YHA Via Warnscale Bothy and summit Haystackes. Total walk length will be around 10km with a total ascent of over 600 Meters. This is a challenging walk in places with the steep uphill sections in the middle of the walk. Then we descend into Black Sail from Scarth Gap Pass. Arriving at the Hut between 16:00-17:00.

Walk Start 09:30
We begin our walk from the Hut with a climb up Loft Beck, This is steep but helped by steps for most of the climb. We then traverse under Grey Knots, above Honister Slate Mine passing the disused quarries and tram way. This is a really interesting walk. There will be 2 options on Sunday. One more challenging Summiting Fleetwith Pike, and the other more gentle return to Buttermere. With a well deserved stop at the Syke Farm Cafe (famous for its Ice Cream!) Finish Mid Afternoon.
Black Sail Hut
YHA Black Sail is one of the oldest hostels in Britain and it started life as a shepherd's bothy - a small hut used for sheltering in the mountains.
Location, location, location. Quite simply, that is what YHA Black Sail is all about. Remote and accessible only on foot, it’s a unique rural retreat that lovers of the great outdoors can normally only dream about.
Located in a traffic-free valley, it’s as tranquil as a stay in the Lakes gets. Those on walking, hiking and climbing holidays will value the superb access to nearby peaks.
On Arrival we will have plenty of time to shower and relax in the beautiful surroundings. There is a cafe/shop in the hut which is self service. Fully licensed and stocked with tea/coffee/snacks/alcoholic beverages. You will need to bring cash to pay for anything from the shop/cafe. (Evening Meal and Breakfast is included in your stay)
