Who: This event is catered to Black-Identifying individuals from all gender expressions and age ranges. Other BIPOC individuals are welcome to attend as long as they are mindful of how one "takes up space".

Date: 9/15/22

Location: Cathedral Park - N Bradford St, Portland, OR 97203

Schedule: 5:30 – 8:00 PM

  • 5:30 – 6:00 Arrive at Cathedral Park
  • 6:00 - 6:15 Introduction + safety talk
  • 6:15 - 7:45 Paddle on the Willamette
  • 7:45 - 8:00 Disembark Canoes

Food: The Estuary Partnership will be providing light refreshments for participants.

Black Men’s Wellness is a community-based initiative that addresses health concerns commonly affecting Black and African-American men, including high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, anxiety, and more.

Through culturally specific, trauma-informed workshops, we engage African-American men of all ages to identify and discuss health concerns they are currently experiencing and/or are susceptible to. We offer curriculum and activities focused on healthy eating and physical fitness to raise awareness, equip participants, and promote strategies for prevention.

The has provided on-water experiences in their Big Canoes for more than a decade with the aim of supporting access and experiences on the rivers and streams in our watershed. Their current canoes are 14-passenger, 29-foot, bright orange canoes. Each canoe carries two experienced Estuary Partnership staff (at the bow and stern) and up to 12 passengers.

Our target focus is BIPOC Youth (and their families), as they represent our hope for a world that reflects innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity. Through mentorship, community engagement, wellness coaching, and fundraising - SOW is able to plant the seeds of our collective future - one that is ripe with endless opportunities for success.
