About this Event
Black Liturgies, a service of prayer and song inspired by the works of Cole Arthur Riley, will be held on Sunday, October 26, at 3:00 p.m. at Sherwood Forest United Methodist Church located at 3520 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, N.C. This contemplative service, modeled after the tradition of Evensong, captures the words, emotions, and spirituality of the Black experience.
The service will be led by Ken Pettigrew, co-founder of The Gathering; Joshuah Brian Campbell, Director of Music and Arts at the Wake Forest University School of Divinity; Derensky Cooper, Minister of Music at the White Rock Baptist Church of Durham; and Ben Sloan, pastor at Sherwood Forest UMC. Various members of Building Bridges Through Song will join in song. Poetry and prayer will be delivered by various community liturgists. Audience participation is welcome.
Join us on Sunday, October 26, at 3:00 p.m., to discover that:
“Belonging is not too great an ask. Find your sacred company and may they find and cherish grace.”
— Cole Arthur Riley
