About this Event
Join us on Thursday, May 2 for a screening of an episode from CBC's Black Life: Untold Stories — an eight-part documentary series that reframes the rich and complex histories of Black experiences in Canada — followed by a panel discussion hosted by CBC's Information Morning Portia Clark and a reception.
Presented in partnership with the Black Life Impact Foundation, the event will feature the episode, “Claiming Space".
The episode, directed by Frances-Anne Solomon, is a lyrical journey through the growth of Black communities, such as Africville, the government policies that destroyed these once thriving settlements, and the residents’ resistance to systemic displacement.
6:30 p.m. - Doors open, Paul O'Regan Hall at the Halifax Central Library
7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - Screening and panel discussion
8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. - Reception
Refreshments will be served during the reception.
Black Life: Untold Stories features eight Black Canadian directors and their unique perspectives to considerations of slavery, Black empowerment, hip-hop, immigration, art and literature, sports, policing and settlements, in separate episodes.
Black Life: Untold Stories is now streaming on CBC's free streaming app, CBC Gem.
