Black Legacy Day Celebration 2026
Every time Black folks and their friends gather, it’s a party! The Black Legacy Advancement Coalition's Black Legacy Day Celebration is a gathering hosted in Detroit, Michigan, centered around authentic Black joy, liberation and celebration. On Saturday, May 30th, Detroiters, neighbors, partners and friends of every race, creed and background are invited to share in a day of reflection and fun. There will be a Black History scavenger hunt, the Black Legacy Basketball Tournament, justice resources, food giveaway, activities for kids and a Black Legacy Gospel Concert.
In 2025, the State of Michigan and the City of Detroit recognized our organization by committing Black Legacy Day in perpetuity, where we annually reflect and remember the legacies that Black lives have built Detroit, as well as look forward to the future of our great city because of what they’ve left behind. Every year, we feature Black leaders that have made indelible contributions to our community. This year, we will honor the memory of the late Bishop John Henry Sheard and Lady Willie Mae Sheard.
This year, we will be celebrate Black legacy with live music, sponsors, vendors, wellness conversations by Movement Is Life, great food, free health screenings, a basketball tournament as well as activities for youth and children. The entire day will be a come and go atmosphere, making it accessible for the general public and all ages. Come enjoy this fun-filled experience in a vibrant atmosphere of joy!
