About this Event

Join us for an afternoon of hands on activities, community and time at the beautiful City Slicker Farm in West Oakland. We will explore and celebrate Black farming, Black connection to land, Black health and Black joy. This event is open to Black people of all ages (and their loved ones).

Together we will:

- make our own garden inspired teas

- plant an African Diaspora inspired spiral garden for children

-enjoy a free yoga class with Kenya Aissa (bring mats if you have them)

Please register so we know you are coming

About our hosts :

Hummingbirds Urban Farming Collective: Hummingbirds Urban Farming Collective is dedicated to creating deep connections to land and community for Black children and the communities that help to raise them up.

City Slicker Farms: Works to increase wellness and build community through equitable access to healthy food, thriving gardens, and urban green space.

Why should you join us? :

- By learning about afro-ecology we can begin to rewrite the narrative about Black history, Black ingenuity and Black legacies.

- By teaching our children about this history we provide them an opportunity to connect with culture and traditions that white supremacy tries to hide.

- When we connect with afro-ecology we have an opportunity to access sustainable practices for being in right relationship with the land and ultimately ourselves.

- It is incredibly cool to learn about the experiences and pure brilliance of our ancestors.

- Spending time outdoors on a beautiful farm in beloved community is good for the soul.

*space is limited, please register early.
