Class is in Session: Andre Easton and Black educators teach the real Black history, defying Trump censorship and Democratic Party silence.
About this Event

Join congressional candidate and Bronx high school teacher Andre Easton and fellow Black educators for a powerful, no-filter conversation marking 100 years of Black History Month and the revolutionary legacy behind it, plus a live showcase of Black artists and cultural workers.

Featured artists include Afro-Puerto Rican arts project BombaYo, DJ collective Uptown Vinyl Supreme, pianist Warner Meadows, poet Prometheus Brer, and saxophonist Seth Sandoval. Food will be provided.

This year marks a century of honoring Black History Month. And the true authors of that history are the masses of working people, who have honored the legacy of the past through the urgent task of organizing for the future. That striving for a better future is how Black people have led two revolutions in the United States.

The history of Black people is the history of those who didn’t wait to be handed freedom. Enslaved people carried out the first general strike in U.S. history, leaving plantations en masse to join the Union Army and free themselves. Black workers, students, and civil rights leaders later ended Jim Crow through mass struggle, risking their lives to defeat racist violence.

And now, those same forces of racism want to erase that history entirely. As Trump-aligned politicians attack schools and institutions, and Democratic leaders offer little more than symbolism, the question is urgent: who will defend the truth, and who will organize to move it forward?

The time is now to build lasting, independent working-class organization and complete the unfinished work of freeing ourselves.
