About this Event

Writing on the Wall open Black History Month celebrations 2022 with the launch of the L8 Archive Exhibition at Liverpool Central Library on 6th October at 6pm, celebrating the history and legacy of two of the most significant organisations to have emerged from Liverpool; Liverpool 8 Law Centre and the Liverpool Anti-Racist Community Arts Association (LARCAA).

A unique collection of documents, including reports, photographs, artwork and publicity material from these two iconic organisations will be on display from October to December 2022. The launch will feature speeches and discussion from L8 activists, Maria O’Riley and Joe Farrag, Archivist Vicki Caren, Liverpool Record Office Team Leader Helena Smart and WoW Co-Director Madeline Heneghan who has overseen the project.

Writing on the Wall’s Creative Heritage projects involve local communities in documenting, preserving and sharing their history through creative activities, including displays, books, plays, walking tours and education projects, making them visible to the wider public. Our projects to date include The George Garrett, Great war to Race Riots and The L8 Archive Projects. Join us in celebrating this unique and vital archive, which documents the struggles and campaigns of the Liverpool 8 community, from the L8 uprisings and beyond.
