Best book I ever read! Love the plot and seamless weaving of the storyline. The author has a wonderful understanding of history, which helps this to be a historical novel as well, taking us over a fifty year span.
The book paints a complex story of African Americans managing and challenging their status in America. There is joy, pain and hope expressed in a way so true to Black culture it feels authentic, affirming and affectionate.
The story is about a prideful young soldier that becomes one of the most feared and respected African American entrepreneurs in the early 1900's
