About this Event
Join Prospect Park Alliance and the 67th Precinct Clergy Council for a Black History Month event centered on the theme, "Peace Over Prejudice." Enjoy an afternoon of painting, history, food and community at Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park. This unique spin on the traditional "sip and paint" invites our community to contribute to a collective artwork, which will be unveiled at the end of the event. This event blends creativity, history and community-building, while standing against hate and taking time to recognize Black history.
This event is part of the to re-envision the mission and programming of the Lefferts Historic House Museum in Prospect Park to focus on exploring the lives, resistance and resilience of the Indigenous people of Lenapehoking, whose unceded ancestral lands the park and house rests upon, and the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family. By focusing on stories of resistance, resilience, empowerment and joy, while also recognizing the legacies of dispossession, enslavement and oppression, the Alliance seeks to create a safe space for engaging with our collective past as well as contemporary issues affecting our communities today.
If you would like to participate in the painting activity please select "RSVP to Join the Painting Activity" as supplies are limited. If you would like to join the event overall please select "RSVP to Join the General Event."
About the 67th Precinct Clergy Council:
With our mission to heal and empower communities impacted by gun violence, the 67th Precinct Clergy Council has been a valued partner in the fight against gun violence. Guided by the belief that the welfare and safety of our diverse community is our shared responsibility, we adopted a holistic approach to help lower youth involvement in senseless gun violence and build safer and more peaceful communities. We continue to respond, rebuild, and restore hope for safe communities with our prevention programs and training, supporting members of the community and offering solutions to problems arising in the 67th Precinct and across the city.
