As BLACK GIRLS ROCK! continues its Road to 20 celebration, we're proud to mark this milestone year with an intimate evening featuring one of the defining storytellers of our time.
Join BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Founder & CEO Beverly Bond for a special conversation with award-winning writer, producer, director, and cultural trailblazer Mara Brock Akil as she celebrates the release of her highly anticipated debut novel, The Revelation of Dionne Daphne.
As the visionary creator behind groundbreaking series including Girlfriends, The Game, Being Mary Jane, and Forever, Mara Brock Akil has spent more than two decades shaping the cultural landscape through unforgettable characters and authentic storytelling. A BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Shot Caller Award honoree, Mara has inspired generations by placing the lives, voices, and complexity of Black women at the center of her work.
Hosted at Aliya Cocktail Den inside Hotel Indigo Williamsburg, the evening pairs inspiring conversation with Aliya's artfully crafted signature cocktails in an intimate setting designed for connection, conversation, and celebration.
Following the conversation, guests will have the opportunity to meet Mara during an exclusive book signing, with books available for purchase onsite through Café con Libros, Brooklyn's beloved Black- and Latina-owned feminist bookstore.
The evening continues with music by DJ Beverly Bond & Friends.
