About this Event

Join the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Urban Agriculture for the Black Food Policy Summit. Over the course of the day, speakers and panelists will explore land, infrastructure, and capital for Black farmers; urban agriculture; Food is Medicine and health equity; food sovereignty; how city and state policy is shaping opportunities for Black farmers, food businesses, and communities; and much more.

Breakout Sessions

When you register, you’ll choose one of the following breakout sessions to attend as part of the morning programming:

  • Data, Power, and Food Security (DOHMH): A panel on how food insecurity data can both reveal and obscure inequities, and how it can be used to advance food security and policy change for Black communities in New York City.
  • Growing the Next Generation of Food Justice Activists (Harlem Grown): An interactive cooking demonstration featuring Black cuisine and farm-grown vegetables, exploring how food education can serve as a pathway to youth empowerment and activism.
  • Grounding Policy in Equity: Lessons from Community Kitchen: An interactive workshop on Community Kitchen’s pilot restaurant and what it reveals about building equitable food spaces and policy.
  • The State of Black Women in the Food Industry: A look at new research on the experiences of Black women across the food industry, and what the findings mean for building a more equitable food system.

If you’d like to switch sessions after registering, email [email protected] and we’ll do our best to accommodate you, depending on availability.

The Summit is free and open to the public, though space is limited. Food will be provided.
