About this Event
Black Females in Architecture (BFA) is excited to present the second event in the ‘BFA Learning Mixers’ series, developed in collaboration with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and funded by the 2023 RIBA Local Initiative Fund (LIF).
The upcoming session 'Matriarchal & Female-led Practices,' is a collaborative event between BFA and UWE. The event will focus on the influence of women in architecture and the lessons we can draw from specifically African matriarchal practices in design. With presentations from BFA members about their ongoing MA Research, Ann de Graft-Johnson about her work at MATRIX and more female practitioners, the event will explore how these practices foster more equitable, culturally inclusive, and community-driven environments.
Participants will be able to engage with the panel of speakers through a longer Q&A session including discussions on key topics:
● What can we learn from female-led or matriarchal practices?
● How can we create more equitable and inclusive spaces?
