About this Event
Historically, Black movies have played an invaluable role in reflecting the richness and depth of African-American heritage. Most films that have spanned the past few decades have been considered Black if their storylines are rooted in the experiences that align with the Black existence. Notable Black directors on this list who understand the nuances of the Black experience have also harnessed the skill of translating their insights into well-refined stories. The rest, as they say, is history.
The Rhode Island Black Film Festival presents our annual BLACK CLASSIC UNDER THE STARS, August 22, 7p.m. featuring an evening of Live Music followed by one of your favorite films from the 80’s, 90’s or yes even the 70’s. Legendary local saxophonist Randy Ashe, Ashe & Company will start the evening off with a little blues and jazz. Black Classics Under the Stars is free. Sponsored by the 195 District Park, Rhode Island Expansion Arts and the Rhode Island Council for Humanities Thrive Grant.
