About this Event

Black Birders Week is an annual nationwide event aimed at highlighting Black nature enthusiasts and increasing the visibility of Black birders, who face unique challenges and risks when engaging in outdoor activities. Bird walks like this one can raise awareness about the ways Black people and People of Color engage with nature and celebrate, uplift and support their appreciation for birds, and acknowledge the barriers to a more equitable access to nature. As a part of this event, Baton Rouge Audubon is holding a guided bird walk in north Baton Rouge on June 22, 2024 from 8-10am. Specific location information will be shared with registered participants. Registration is required. Participants will be limited to 25. Please bring your own binoculars, but binoculars will be provided for those that do not have their own (up to 20). We will be walking outdoors for 2 hours. Please wear comfortable, close-toed shoes, and comfortable clothing. Sun protection is recommended. Bug spray and water will be provided.

Cash prizes for the most enthusiastic participants! (All participants will receive certificates.)

We encourage participants of all races and interests. We welcome lovers of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, plants, trees, insects, fish, or nature in general. There is no age limit, but any minor participants must be accompanied by a responsible chaperone during the walk.
