About this Event
Weusi Agosti/ Black August
We gather in remembrance and study, honoring the spirit and legacy of resistance that Black August embodies.
August 13th marks a solemn and powerful commemorative moment in our collective history. It is the anniversary of the 1970 killings of W.L. Nolen, Alvin Jugs Miller, and Cleveland Edwards, three revolutionary Black men who were assassinated by Pr*son guards in Soledad Pr*son. Their murders became a spark in the fire of Pr*son abolitionist thought and Black radical organizing, especially through the influence of George Jackson, whose life and death further galvanized the movement.
Come join the Black August Book Study 6 pm-8 pm, to learn about its political foundations and its ongoing relevance in today’s struggles against carceral violence, anti-Blackness, and state repression.
In the spirit of Weusi Agosti, we honor these political prisoners and engage in study as an act of resistance, reflection, and renewal. 🖤✊🏾
