Join renowned Anishinaabe Black Ash weaver April Ogimaakwe Stone for a hands-on introduction to the traditional art of Black Ash basketry and weaving. Participants will explore traditional weaving techniques, learn about Black Ash and other natural materials, and create a piece of their own to take home.

Morning Black Ash Weaving Workshop

- Ages: 18+ preferred; youth ages 13–17 are welcome with an accompanying adult

Full-Day Black Ash Weaving Workshop
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Spend the day learning with weaver April Ogimaakwe Stone as she shares the history, cultural significance, and traditional techniques of Anishinaabe Black Ash basketry. Participants will work on their own Black Ash weaving project throughout the day and leave with a finished creation.
Lunch is provided.

These workshops are provided in partnership with the Avon Hills Folk School and made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
