Learn how to shoot, develop, and print film. Darkroom included!Film is to photography as wind is to sailing. Digital photography is the power speedboat that gets you there quickly, but film photography is the sailboat slowly allowing you to feel the waves and see the light glimmering on the ocean. Slow down and get back to the pure basics of what is a direct interaction of light on silver halide crystals. From this science, you get photographic art.
Join DFW professional photographer and educator Edgar Miller of Edgar Miller Images for a full-day workshop at Photographique photo lab in the heart of Deep Ellum- Dallas. You will be photographing, developing, and printing your best black & white image of the day. Bring your 35mm or 120 film camera (double-check that it works) as Edgar helps you develop the aesthetic of black & white film photography.
Starting with the basics, you will go over film choices and exposure settings. After making sure your roll of film has been loaded correctly, you will go on a short photo walk in the surrounding Deep Ellum area to shoot the black & white roll of film you will develop and print in the afternoon.
Lunch will be on your own, with lots of options within a few blocks of Photographique.
The afternoon will concentrate on printing a successful 8x10 image from the photos taken in the morning. There will be a demo on how to hand process the film during which the rolls taken by the group will be quickly machine processed. You will then step into the amber glow of the darkroom with your developed roll of film to learn how to print an 8x10 using the enlargers in their rental darkroom. Photographique's framing expert will also talk about presentation and framing as he frames your print into an 11x14 frame with a mat.
This introduction of the film to print process in black & white is hopefully the primer you need to slow down your pursuit of images and enjoy the light!
You will be supplied with two rolls of black & white film, black & white printing paper, and a frame for your final print.
