BITE THE POWER™️ - CHARLESTON

Come listen to stories you can sink your teeth into! Hosted by KJ Kearney, the 2024 James Beard Award winner for best social media account, BITE THE POWER™️ is the first traveling storytelling event focused on Black food and the people who love it!

Each presenter has 8 (get it?) minutes to tell the Black food story of their choice. Whether it be something inspirational, motivational, informative, funny, or a combination of all, Come listen to stories you can sink your teeth into! Hosted by KJ Kearney, the 2024 James Beard Award winner for best social media account, BITE THE POWER™️ gives Black people the opportunity to talk about food from their unique experience and perspective.

Hosted in the Camden Room, inside of the Charleston Visitor's Center, presenters for the night inlcude:

Cheryl Day; a notable baker, author, entreprenuer, and co-founder of the Southern Restaurants for Social Justice－a diverse coalition of bakers, chefs, makers, and restaurant owners that supports and amplifies Black businesses in the food industry.  

Angell Troxler; the former public school teacher and breast cancer survivor turned social media influencer is the first Education Outreach Administrator for the award-winning Charleston Wine + Food Festival.

Femi Oyediran; a two-time national finalist for the Chaine des Rotisseurs Best Young Sommelier in America competition, winner of the 2017 & 2019 Top Somm Blind Tasting Competition of the Charleston Wine + Food Festival, Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s 2018 ‘40 Under 40', and named Food and Wine Magazine's ‘Sommelier of the Year’ in 2019.
