Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are some of the most important seasons in a mother and baby’s life. While so much attention is placed on birth plans, baby registries, and preparing the nursery, one of the most important pieces often gets overlooked: the nervous system.
During pregnancy, stress can impact the body in very real ways. When the nervous system is constantly stuck in fight or flight mode, the body releases more stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Over time, this can influence hormonal regulation, immune function, sleep, energy, blood pressure, breathing patterns, and emotional regulation.
Your growing baby is also developing in this environment. Since the baby’s nervous system begins developing very early in pregnancy, the mother’s stress response and overall nervous system function play an important role in creating a healthy foundation for baby’s growth and development.
